When I was in high school our local newspaper was the only place that posted high school results. The day after a match I would race to the breakfast table to see if my name made it in the paper. We called it "getting ink." In today's day and age results are posted immediately on multiple social media sites by athletics departments, and league websites. For better or worse we are receiving instant notifications on our results. Sure, we all want to see our name in "ink," however that should not be the primary focus for our athletes. Every time they step on the court their goal should be to improve as an individual and as a team. Regardless of what the scoreboard says at the end of the night it is about overall improvement. When we focus on growth and development the results will follow. The journey is just as important as the destination. There may be stumbles and falls, those are a part of the journey. No matter the results we pick ourselves up off the fields, courts, and mats and have the courage to continue.
