Growing up I was not a fan of Roller Coasters. This past month I boarded a front row seat on my new favorite ride, playoffs. The journey took us all over the region, down to Gonzalez, Carmel, and Palo Alto. After four road wins the team was able to host the next three. No easy feat with basketball season starting up and gym space becoming sparse. That didn't stop the team as the Daily Journal captioned, Mercy on a Mission and we were! With each game we donned our black spirit shirts, had the same pre game meals, and post game cookies. Mercy did not drop a set all they way through to the CIF Nor Cal Regional Finals. On Tuesday Mercy officially met our match in Archie Williams High School. The team battled but could not get the offense going in our typical fashion. While it was not the result we wanted that night, it was a historic season. This was the first CCS Championship captured by any team at Mercy. The first time we have hosted a CIF game, and finished CIF Nor Cal Regional Finalists. Thank you to the team and our coaches for allowing this entire community to be a part of this season and enjoy the ride, one for the record books!
On Saturday Nicole Castagna '23 competed in the CCS Championships at Hallmark Park. She ran a 22:53, 8 seconds off of her personal best. Congratulations to Nicole Castagna '23 on an excellent season.
On Saturday Mercy made its return back to the Morton Gymnasium at Serra High School. Gym doors opened at 4:30 and shortly after Pleasant Valley Volleyball team entered. Fans quickly followed and packed the stands. Mercy came out firing with offensive attacks from Anna Snigorenko '23 and Ava Cacao '25. Mercy cruised to victory with scores of 25-17, 25-22, and 25-18.
On Tuesday Mercy traveled north to Archie Williams. While the team battled in every set, it seemed like the Falcons were able to find the holes in our defense with tips and well placed kills. Mercy lost in straight sets 25-18, 25-22, 25-22. The team finished 26-10 on the season.
