Last Friday, we hosted our first ever "Campus Coach" at our tennis match. The week prior to the match, the team got together and invited Mr. Offield to coach. With little details, other than "we want you to come!," he graciously accepted. Even on a day when we were in distance learning, he made the trip out to Skyline College. Below, is an excerpt from him about this afternoon spent with the team.
"I want to send a big thank you to the coaches and administration for such a kind invitation to join the tennis team on the courts at Skyline to be a campus coach. We all love supporting athletics even amid our busy schedules, and this program brings us in a bit closer than occasionally attending on the sidelines.
I wasn't sure where to be, so when Coach Hickey saw me chatting off to the side with a few parents, she invited me over to the sidelines where I met the opposing coach and hung out with our Bears to discuss how they were doing on the day and in their year. I was able to offer all of my tennis advice possible, none whatsoever. The short trip was a highlight of my week. The busier the week, the more important the smiles, and they abounded.
Thanks to all! Especially the athletes!
...and on that day, the Bears dominated."
On behalf of the tennis team and myself, I want to thank Mr. Offield for his time and support. I look forward to our next installment of faculty and staff on the sidelines and in the huddle!
