Every summer I think to myself, how are we going to top last year? Every year our athletes and teams seem to top their performances from years past and this fall was no different. Last week Mercy Volleyball continued their post season run in the CIF Tournament. The team was placed in the Division III Bracket as the Number 2 seed. On Tuesday we hosted Mountain View High School and Mercy rolled in three sets 25-18, 25-13, 25-17. Ava Cacao '25 had 5 kills and 4 aces, Juliana Mufarreh '24 had 11 kills and Mia Ferdinand '25 had 5 kills and 3 blocks. Kylie Sok '24 added two kills and Jenna Manuel '24 had 11 digs. On Thursday the team faced a familiar foe against Foothill High School. The team from Palo Cedro made the long trip to College of San Mateo and had similar results to last year with Mercy sweeping 26-24, 25-15, and 25-19. Ava Cacao '25 had 11 kills, Juliana Mufarreh '24 had 10 kills. Mia Ferdinand '25 had 9 kills and 2 blocks. Nicole Vo '24 and Isis Ordaz '25 added two aces each. This victory propelled the team to another rematch against Archie Williams. Both teams traded kills in the first set, Archie began to pull away late but Mercy stormed back from 17-23 down to win the first set 30-28. The gym was electric after every point. In the second set Archie was able to pull away. The third set was similar to the first with Mercy charging back however Archie was victorious 26-24. In the fourth and final set Archie created some space early and Mercy could not overcome it. The team finished with their heads held high on another memorable season. What this program has accomplished not only this year but over the last three years has been remarkable for our community. It speaks to our dedicated coaching staff who have been in the gym with them since August 5th! Most importantly to girls and their hard work and execution. It may be easy to look past their achievements since they have had great success in the past few seasons but playoffs are never guaranteed and when any team makes a run beyond CCS it is always admired and appreciated.
