Volleyball has been one of our strongest programs and continues to thrive in part due to our coaches, our athletes, and our community. A good example of it's strength comes from one of our former athletes, Emma Landaverde '23 who is currently competing at West Valley College. During her time at Mercy Emma participated in back to back CCS Championships and was a part of the team that won the first ever Team CCS Championship in school history. That same team went on to compete in the CIF NorCal Regional Finals. While Emma soared to new heights here at Mercy, she is making her own path in both indoor and beach volleyball as a Viking. Transitioning to college can be challenging for any student, and the added commitment of being a student-athlete can seem overwhelming. However, volleyball has helped her stay focused and motivated. She has achieved her highest GPA ever while balancing her athletic and academic responsibilities.
"I am currently a freshman at West Valley playing for their woman’s indoor and beach volleyball team. We just finished our indoor season, ending with a 21-4 record and going undefeated in our conference this year. Our volleyball team is currently ranked 18th in the state. I am looking forward to starting beach volleyball next month and excited to be back on the sand after several seasons off beach volleyball. One of my favorite things about being on this team is the camaraderie with the girls. They are the sweetest when I am at practice, it brightens up my day instantly. Our coach, Sam Crossen, the former UC Berkeley coach, is amazing and I’m truly grateful to have his guidance through this part of my journey. Go Bears and Go Vikings!"
