Over the weekend, I had the privilege of accompanying our Cheer team to JAMZ Nationals in Las Vegas. Despite facing numerous challenges leading up to the competition, the team truly shined like the bright lights of the stage and the city. Our journey began early on Thursday, with a packed schedule of practice and team activities. After touching down, we wasted no time and headed straight to the gym for our final practice. Following some last-minute adjustments, the team engaged in games to maintain energy levels before winding down with study hall and much-needed rest in preparation for our team dinner. It was a special evening where the team dressed up and enjoyed a meal with views of the Bellagio fountains. Early Friday the team made their way to the practice mats before checking in at the Orleans Arena. One of the remarkable aspects of cheer competitions is the sense of camaraderie backstage, from playful games to trading pins; it's a unique atmosphere unlike any other. Despite a few minor hiccups, the first performance went well. Saturday began with an early performance by the Sideline squad, which scored zero deductions achieving the coveted HIT ZERO pin. After a quick review of changes, the team geared up for their second and final Show performance. Simply reaching Nationals was an achievement in itself, and the girls poured their hearts out on the mat for their final performance. After each performance the team is ushered back up to the halls of the Orleans, where they are greeted with cheers and hugs from the many parents that joined us on the trip. As they embraced their families and teammates the tears began to flow. This moment was especially memorable for the seniors realizing it was their last competition in their Mercy Blues. Reflecting on the past year, if there's one word that sums up our Cheer team, it's resilient. Despite facing adversity throughout the season, they refused to be deterred, and finished with an amazing showing at JAMZ Nationals.
