On Wednesday, we celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day, and it was truly inspiring! Our Girls Athletic Association Leadership Team (GAA) organized a special event featuring a Guest Speaker, Angelica Belligan, the founder of More than Your Sport. Angelica shared her journey and the motivation behind her company, emphasizing the importance of identity beyond just being an athlete. She posed three questions to the group: What do I value? What do I bring to the table? What fills my cup? These questions resonated deeply, serving as a reminder of our worth outside of sports.
One of Angelica's key pieces of advice, drawn from her transition from student athlete to collegiate coach, was to "be present, be where your feet are." This simple yet profound reminder resonated with me and hopefully the entire group. It's about grounding ourselves in the moment, fully embracing the experiences and opportunities before us. This message holds particular significance for our seniors, who are nearing the end of their high school athletic journeys. As they represent our community on the fields, in the pool, and on the track, it's crucial for them to be fully present in every practice, meet, and game. Time flies, especially during senior seasons, so being present is paramount. Let's cherish every moment and make the most of our time together.
