March is our time for celebrating athletic trainers, and I couldn't be more excited to honor our very own Mr. Tom at Mercy. Since he joined us last summer, his impact on our community has been remarkable. While he's known for his exceptional care of our athletes, what truly impresses me is the kindness he shows to visiting schools. At Mercy, our mission is all about fostering a community of hospitality, integrity, and compassion, and Mr. Tom embodies these values perfectly. Just last week, I saw him go above and beyond when a player from the opposing team had an asthma attack. Not only did he provide immediate care, but he also lent her his parka to keep her comfortable on the sidelines.
The role of an athletic trainer goes beyond just treating injuries; it includes prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation, all of which Mr. Tom excels at.
Exciting news! We've recently partnered with UCSF, which means big benefits for us, including access to their PlaySafe Program offering free sports physicals. All current Mercy athletes can register for this event and receive a comprehensive screening covering cardiac health, orthopedics, and primary care. Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 4th, at the UCSF Orthopedic Institute in Mission Bay, from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Spots are limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Plus, this opportunity isn't just for Mercy; any school connected with UCSF can take advantage of it. Be sure to register so that you don't miss out!
