In every Athletic Directors Meeting I've attended there is always the same sign stacked high for us to take on the way out. The Poster states, "Players Play, Coaches Coach, and Parents Cheer." I always glance at it but I have never felt the need to take one back to Mercy.
On Tuesday evening, lightening danced around the dark and stormy skies while Mercy Basketball lit up the CSM Gymnasium. The team went down early but closed the gap to within 2 points with a minute remaining. During our comeback we got to the free throw line that is when the other parents began intentionally making noise. The next time our opponents were at the free throw line I glanced at our crowd to see if they would repeat that behavior. As tempting as it was they kept their calm and quiet, showing respect to the players on the court. The greatest asset we have in this community is our people. That was on display Tuesday night and at every Mercy Athletics event.
On Tuesday Soccer opened league play against The Kings Academy. It was a defensive battle all the way through. With 7 minutes left TKA found the back of the net. Mercy rallied throughout the afternoon however came up just short. The team looks to build on a solid start.
On Saturday Mercy Cheer preformed for their second competition of the season. Both Sideline and Show competed at JAMZ Regionals in Roseville. Sideline improved in all areas while Show ran for the first time. Both Sideline and Show continue to improve with each performance as they prepare for Nationals.
On Tuesday Mercy opened WBAL league play against Notre Dame San Jose. Mercy went down in the first quarter 15-4. In the second half they caught up behind clutch play of Clare O'Brien '25 hitting a three pointer to close the gap. Katie Callagy '23 dominated the paint with strong play offensively. The team lost but they fought until the last minute.
