On Thursday in the West Coast Preps Game of the Week Mercy played Notre Dame Belmont. The game was back and forth all afternoon with lead changes almost every inning. With Mercy down 3-5 Jazlyn Villavicencio '24 lead off with a single. Mercy continued to put pressure on with Mia Gonzalez '23 battling and protecting the plate eventually lead to a walk and more runners on the base. Gigi Ortega '24 was 3 for 3 on the afternoon and drew a walk which set up bases loaded. Coco Beck '25 was the spark plug off the bench Mercy needed grabbing everything in right field and finding the hole in Notre Dame's defense to keep the runs coming in. Mercy finished the inning taking the lead 8-5 with Notre Dame back up to bat. In the final inning Mercy got two outs quick but Notre Dame found a way to get two more runs in making it 8-7 game. The last at bat Jazylyn Villavicenio '24 caught the infield pop up to win the game. Mercy remains undefeated in WBAL League play.
